School can be quite stressful, that is why it is important that you have everything that will make it easier when you get to school.

There are certain things that you need in school and having them will definitely make school less stressful, especially as a high school or secondary school student.

But with the fallibility of the human brain, you might forget some, that is why it is expedient to make a checklist of all the school essentials you will need in school far ahead of when you need to go to school.

Books: They, of course, should not be going to school without books. They will need notebooks and also for assignments as well as textbooks to back up what they are taught in class by the teachers. Many parents do not bother much about textbooks but they are very important, especially if you want to imbibe a reading habit. Most schools usually have a list of the textbooks that would useful for the classes your ward will be taking.
Pens: As necessary as they are, they really easy to forget. That is why it is important they appear on your checklist, so you don’t forget them. It is advisable to get a pack or at least, have extras at home. This is because as they are easy to forget, so they are easy to misplace, so you want to have extras hanging around in case such happens. But apart from that, they are not permanent and the ink finishes, so you would need more for that reason as well.
Pencils: They are also to be treated as the pens. Have more than enough and in fact, buying in bulk is cheaper than buying pieces, so it is good money management as well.
Backpack: This is very necessary for them to take books to and from school. While they might have lockers in school where they keep their books, they will need to take books home if they have an assignment or if they need to get further reading done with their textbooks.
Agenda or planner or sticky notes: This will help them make plans for all their assignments and whatever important activity that is on their daily agenda, so they don’t forget.
Folder: They might need more than one depending on how many handouts they are given. If it is quite a lot, then they will need one each for a subject, so they can keep them well arranged and not have to waste time any time they need to go back to it.
A mathematical set: Usually, this is sold as a set but if it isn’t, it consists primarily of pencils, compass, protractor, and rulers. All these are very important for mathematics and other science subjects, especially. So if you are not going to the mathematical set, then you should make sure to get them all for your wards.
Graph books: It is also very important for mathematics and other science subjects.
Calculator: Calculator is as well, necessary for any student at this stage. But make sure it is allowed by the school before going for it.
Lunch pack: It might not be necessary for some schools that serve the students lunch but might be necessary for other schools, especially if your wards are not in boarding school
USB Drive: And in this technological age, it is necessary to have this to save files on their laptops or when they work with the school’s computer.

And if your wards are in boarding school, you will need to include;

Boxes: The boxes will be for when they need to travel to and from school
Toiletries: They will need a lot of toiletries and if you can afford it, buy two sets. They will need all the toiletries ranging from toothbrushes, toilet papers, sanitary towel (if she is female and already sees her period), bathing soap, detergents and washing soap, towel, sleeping attire to toothpaste, body cream, hair cream among others.
Provisions: If the school allows it, then you need to get them other packaged food like cereal that will supplement their feeding.
Other clothing: That is if the school allows because some schools don’t. But they might need a few social attires apart from their normal school uniform as well as something for the cold.

This list is not all-consuming, so if you remember other things your children might need, then you should add it to your list. Some might have peculiar needs like if they have certain health challenges that will require them to have prescribed medicine around.
