Black Friday comes once every year on the 27th November and marks the start of the Christmas shopping expedition, the most interesting aspect is the massive discounts and price cuts that retailers offer in a bid to clear their stock and reward their customers before the start of another year.

Black Friday was first introduced in Kenya by Jumia in 2014 and proceeded to mark the best day for the e-commerce sector with record sales and traffic that momentarily crashed the Jumia website. That year, Jumia offered over 8,000 bargains on products. This year, they doubled the bargains and well, every indication is clear that this will be the biggest online sales day in history.

A sneak peek into the deals has revealed that 32” Samsung television sets will be selling at Ksh. 9,999, 7” Genx tablets at Ksh. 999, Nikon Cameras L340 at Ksh. 9,999, Bruhm 4 gas cookers 60*60cm at Ksh.9,999, Binatone Blenders selling at Ksh. 1,999, Innjoo max phones at Ksh. 8,399, Tefal Dry iron at Ksh.999 among others.

We have prepared 10 tips to ensure you get the best deals and go home smiling

#1 Prepare in Advance – Stay posted on the Jumia Black Friday proceedings by Liking Jumia Kenya Facebook page, follow them on twitter and Instagram too and subscribe to their newsletter to get timely updates on the deals that will be on offer and the timings. Also share the deals with your friends as back-up should you miss out on a flash sale deal.

#2 Download the Jumia Mobile app and check your internet connection – The mobile application will help you keep track of the deals wherever you are and in case you are forced to leave the office or are stuck in traffic, ensure you have enough data bundles and your internet connection is stable in case you are using a desktop.

#3 Keep refreshing your browser and check-out fast- The flash sale featuring upto 90% discounts on products kicks-off at 6:00Am until 8:00PM with deals being released every 2 hours. Keep refreshing your browser to ensure you don’t miss out. Immediately you spot a deal, click on BUY NOW and complete the check-out process in a flash, chances are, if you delay, someone else gets it and you end up with an empty cart!

#4 Shop with a friend – Let your friend know what you want to purchase and know what they want to purchase. Be online together at the same time. If you spot their deal before them, BUY NOW and check out as fast. The feeling of a double win is overwhelming.

#5 Be flexible with several alternatives – Know that hundreds others are eying the same product you are which means its stock could sell out in minutes. Have alternatives in mind beforehand to avoid getting disappointed should your initial choice sell out.

#6 Don’t be afraid to buy – Jumia delivers to you anywhere in Kenya and you can pay on delivery. You can also chose to pick the item from any of the Jumia pick-up points which include Posta, Aramex, G4S offices. So spot a deal, buy it and pay later on delivery.

#7 Check all company policies in advanceJumia offers a free return policy of 7 days and warranty for its products. It’s always good to know the terms and conditions beforehand.

#8 Order multiple fashion products – You spot a fashion deal and aren’t sure the dress or shoe will fit you, order multiple sizes and colours and only pay for the one you like and return the ones you don’t on the spot free of charge.

#9 look out for some post Black Friday – If you missed out, don’t worry, chances are there could still be some massively discounted deals post Black Friday but not as good as those of the D-DAY it’s your call.

#10 whatever you do, don’t go offline- Don’t get tired of being online. Don’t get tired of refreshing your browser of course you want your friend to know that the same TV they bought at Ksh. 48,000 is the same one you bought at Ksh. 10,000? Don’t you want to see the look on their face and experience the superman effect? I guess you do.
