This April marks the 3rd annual Red My Lips campaign. #RedMyLips is an international nonprofit organization that uses red lipstick as a weapon and a tool to raise awareness about sexual violence, combat rape myths and victim-blaming, and demonstrate solidarity and support for ALL survivors. We asked a few bloggers to give us their stand on sexual violence and here’s what they had to say:

Any man that touches a women against her will is not a man. That’s not what real men do. Violence against women is a sign of weakness and inability to be human. It’s not about the length of her skirt, the movement of her lips, the sight of her cleavage, it’s about self control. Say no to sexual violence, BE A MAN!

“A man is unlikely to be brought within earshot of women as they judge men’s appearance, height, muscle tone, sexual technique, penis size, personal grooming, or taste in clothes–all of which we do. The fact is that women are able to view men just as men view women, as objects for sexual and aesthetic evaluation; we too are effortlessly able to choose the male “ideal” from a lineup and if we could have male beauty as well as everything else, most of us would not say no. But so what? Given all that, women make the choice, by and large, to take men as human beings first.”

“Of all evils of man, none is so degrading, shocking, brutal as the abuse of the better half of humanity; the Female Sex”

“I really do not think that there is a reason to sexual violence. The notion that men feel that they control women’s bodies is ridiculous. Why shouldn’t women feel the same way about men? It is almost as if men are raised with such massive egos that to stand up for one’s womanhood feels that men are given the right to do as they wish towards women. It goes without saying that this is obviously narrow-minded of them. As Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie mentions, “…we teach girls shame – close your legs, cover yourself! We make them feel as though by being born female they are already guilty of something. ….They grow up to be women who silence themselves. They grow up into women who cannot say what they truly think.” Confidence and standing up for oneself must be instilled in women from a young age; to get women to defy and not cater to the fragile egos of men. The way a woman carries herself, by what she wears, who she interacts with and the situations she finds herself in should not be a reason to make men think that they can do anything to her, and make it her fault that it is because of her that things happen to her. Sexual violence because of womanhood should stop. NOW.”

“Beauty provokes harassment, the law says, but it looks through men’s eyes when deciding what provokes it.”
