On Friday 29th April 2016, the students of St. Augustin School, Lavington had a chance to visit Jumia, Kenya’s leading online retailer’s office in their Kaka house, Westlands office, Nairobi.
After being received by Nancy Sangoro – Head of Human Resource and her team, the students took their mid-morning tea and snacks before interacting with Parinaz Firozi managing director Jumia who took questions on the different foundations upon which the company is founded.
Jumia then gave the students a tour of the different departments and opportunity to listen in and ask questions on the importance of free communication within an organisation, empowering employees to make decisions and take ownership of projects, prioritising the customer among other cultures the company values.
St. Augustin reiterated the importance of practical experiences in the learning process ideals it upholds. Students were also able to relate lessons they had taken in class and their relation to the work environment. On her part, Sangoro welcomed the students to work for Jumia upon completion of their studies saying it has always been a joy to her department and herself to grow and retain talent.
