The Book of Jasher published by J.H. Parry & Company (Salt Lake City, 1887) is a translation of a Hebrew work known as "Sefer HaYashar" (meaning "The Book of the Upright" or "The Correct Record"). This text is one of several apocryphal works titled "Book of Jasher," all composed much later than biblical times. The J.H. Parry version covers biblical history from creation up to the death of Joshua, providing expanded details and narratives on events and figures mentioned in the Bible, such as the antediluvian patriarchs, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and more. It includes additional insights into biblical events like the flood, the tower of Babel, and the separation of the earth's peoples. The book aims to illustrate divine history with more detail than the canonical texts, touching on themes of virtue, piety, and divine justice.
This edition is considered an extraordinary and detailed source of biblical traditions and ancient history, although it is regarded as apocryphal and not canonical scripture. It enriches the biblical narrative with extra historical and theological context beyond the traditional Bible.
