In general use, black
seeds are used in foods for flavoring or as a spice. Black Cumin is an amazing and highly potential seed that has

Other Uses:
For opiate addiction,
500 mg of dried black seeds has been used three times daily for
up to twelve days. For allergies, 40-80 mg/kg daily of black
seed oil has been used three times daily for up to
eight weeks. For anxiety, half a teaspoon of Nigella sativa oil has
been taken with herbal tea based on traditional use. Kalonji and its active components has been
found to prevent stomach ulcers development and protected the lining of the
stomach against the effects of alcohol.
NOTE: Applying kalonji may
cause contact dermatitis in some people. Test-tube and animal studies have
shown that it may also influence blood clotting and possibly slow down uterine
contractions during pregnancy.
Active compounds are
thymoquinone, thymohydroquinone, dithymoquinone and thymol etc. Black seeds
also contain some other compounds in trace amounts. Seeds contain two different
types of alkaloids; i.e. isoquinoline alkaloids e.g. nigellicimine and
nigellicimine-N-oxide, and pyrazol alkaloids or indazole ring bearing alkaloids
which include nigellidine and nigellicine. The seeds of N. sativa contain
protein, fat, carbohydrates, crude fibre and total ash. The seeds are also
containing good amount of various vitamins and minerals like Cu, P, Zn and Fe
etc. The seeds contain carotene which is converted by the liver to vitamin
A.
