"Memories of Midnight" by Sidney Sheldon is a psychological thriller and sequel to "The Other Side of Midnight." The story follows Catherine Douglas, who wakes up in a convent in Greece suffering from amnesia and haunted by nightmares and fragments of memories. She only knows her name but has no recollection of her past.
Catherine is taken under the wing of the wealthy and powerful Greek shipping tycoon Constantin Demiris (Costa), who acts as her benefactor. As she seeks to uncover her identity and the truth about her past, she remembers being betrayed by her husband Larry Douglas and his mistress Noelle Page, who were wrongfully executed for attempting to kill her. Costa, fearful that Catherine will expose his dark secrets, relocates her to London to keep her under control.
Meanwhile, various characters including lawyers, assassins, and vengeful family members become entwined in a deadly game of power, manipulation, and revenge surrounding Costa and Catherine. Catherine endures assassination attempts, including being trapped in a boiler room set to explode, but survives and eventually exposes the conspiracies.
The novel culminates with Catherine marrying her psychiatrist Alan Hamilton, bringing love and hope after her traumatic ordeal. The story ends with the downfall and death of Costa and resolution of the multiple betrayals and conflicts.
Overall, "Memories of Midnight" is a suspenseful tale of amnesia, deception, vengeance, and survival with dramatic twists and a strong female protagonist fighting against powerful enemies.
