Brand: Alfred Dunhill
Fragrance Type: Aromatic Green / Aquatic woody EDT
Launch Year: 2002. Jumia Kenya+2Exotic - One Stop Perfume Shop+2
Perfumer: Philippe Romano. Jumia Kenya+1
Here are the smells you'll notice in the different stages of the fragrance:
Stage | Notes | What you can expect |
---|---|---|
Opening / Top | Litchi, Mandarin Orange, Lotus, Bergamot Exotic - One Stop Perfume Shop+1 | A fruity-citrus burst with exotic sweetness from lychee and brightness from the citrus (mandarin, bergamot). Lotus adds a light aquatic / floral freshness. |
Heart / Middle | Sea Notes (marine accord), Orange, Brazilian Rosewood Exotic - One Stop Perfume Shop+2Jumia Kenya+2 | Brings a watery cool feel, a bit salty / ocean-like with woods. The rosewood gives subtle woodiness and refinement. |
Base / Dry-down | Tonka Bean, Musk, Amber, Benzoin Exotic - One Stop Perfume Shop+2FNF+2 | Warm, slightly sweet, creamy woods and resin. The base gives lingering warmth, comfort, and depth. |
Overall it is pretty fresh at first (fruity & aquatic), then transitions to more warm/woody / slightly sweet base — a good all-rounder for casual or daytime wear.
Because there are a lot of fakes or misleading “tester” listings, here are checks you should make:
Labeling
The box or bottle should clearly say “Tester”, “Testeur”, “Not for Sale” or something similar.
The packaging tends to be plainer — fewer decorative elements.
Box & Bottle Matching
The batch/lot code on the box & the bottle’s bottom should match (if both are present).
Fonts, print quality, clarity of glass should be good. Look for clean edges, no smudging, consistent color.
Cap & Atomizer
Some testers come with simpler caps or no cap. But the atomizer should still spray cleanly and properly.
If there's a fancy metallic or decorative cap and the price is low, that’s a red flag.
Scent / Smell Test
Test the freshness of the opening: if you expect lychee & citrus but you get something very chemical or off, check carefully.
Let it dry down: the base should develop tonka bean + amber + musk, not vanish quickly.
Seller Reputation
Prefer shops that are known for authentic perfumes, with reviews, guarantee of authenticity.
If they provide images of the tester version, check them: packaging, labeling, bottle bottom etc.
Compare Market Prices
If a “tester” is priced almost the same as a full retail in your market, maybe it's mis-labeled, or it's priced as such because of import costs, etc.
Having a sense of what the non-tester goes for helps you gauge if a tester deal is good.
