Polysorbates are a class of emulsifiers used in some pharmaceuticals and food preparation. They are commonly used in oral and topical pharmaceutical dosage forms. They are also often used in cosmetics to solubilize essential oils into water-based products.
It is used in oil in water recipes for lotions, body washes, hair creams, lip gloss, scrubs, dispersing bath oils, conditioners, shampoos, body sprays/linen sprays. Used in formulas with our Crothix pastilles to thicken formulas.
Polysorbates (PSs) are ubiquitous in biotherapeutic formulations, protecting protein drugs from interfacial stresses [1], and are generally considered to be safe within the ranges that are used in biotherapeutics
Amounts of 5% or more have been shown to irritate skin; however, other studies using amounts as high as 15% have not shown an irritant or sensitized response. Is polysorbate good for face?
Polysorbate 20 is safe for use on skin and hair. It is sometimes termed as a carcinogen because of the possible contamination with 1,4-dioxane during the manufacturing process. However, proper filtration processes make this ingredient absolutely safe for use.
