Potassium Hydroxide is an odorless, white or slightly yellow, flakey or lumpy solid which is often in a water solution. It is used in making soap, as an electrolyte in alkaline batteries and in electroplating, lithography, and paint and varnish removers. Liquid drain cleaners contain 25 to 36% of Potassium Hydroxide.
Potassium hydroxide, or caustic potash, is used in a wide variety of industries. It is used in the chemical industry, mining, manufacturing of different compounds, fertilisers, in potassium soaps and in detergents.
Although sodium hydroxide is more commonly used for soap production, potassium hydroxide creates a softer soap. KOH is also more soluble than NaOH, which means it has a higher content of cleaning agent by liquid volume and so is typically used to make liquid soap
In high concentrations, potassium hydroxide can aggravate skin, even if used in rinse-off products such as soaps or cleansers. In fact, a study on skin products found that using an alkaline cleanser, even once, can do significant damage to the skin.
Sodium hydroxide is a pH balancer used in a wide range of beauty and skin care items, like cleansers, soaps, makeup, and creams or lotions. In its pure form, sodium hydroxide is extremely harmful, but beauty and skin care products don't contain much sodium hydroxide, so they're safe to use.
Potassium hydroxide solution is more conductive when compared to NaOH and therefore used as an electrolyte in some alkaline batteries. It is used as a pH control agent in the food industry. It is used in the thickening of food. It is used in chip fabrication for semiconductors
