A rubber bobber stopper (usually comes pre-threaded on a wire loop)
Your fishing line
A sliding float or bobber (if using one)
Weights, swivel, hook (as per your rig setup)
Prepare the Stopper
Take one rubber stopper that’s already on a small wire loop (it looks like a small ring with rubber beads threaded on it).
Insert Your Line Through the Wire Loop
Pass your main fishing line through the wire loop—just a few inches of line is enough.
Slide the Stopper Onto the Line
While holding the rubber stopper between your fingers, pull the wire loop away from it.
This slides the rubber stopper off the wire and onto your fishing line.
Position the Stopper
Gently slide the stopper up the line to the desired depth.
For example, if you want your bait to suspend 3 feet below the float, slide the stopper about 3 feet above where the hook will be.
Add a Bead (Optional)
If you’re using a sliding float, slide a plastic bead onto the line after the stopper.
The bead protects the stopper from getting stuck inside the float’s hole.
Attach Your Float
Slide your slip bobber or float onto the line after the bead.
The float will slide freely until it meets the stopper.
Finish Rigging
Tie on your hook, swivel, and weight as usual.
Adjust the stopper up or down to set your fishing depth.
Test the Setup
Cast your line into the water and observe.
The float should stop at your set depth and stand upright.
If it sits too high or low, slide the stopper to adjust.
Wet the line slightly before sliding the stopper to prevent line damage.
You can reuse rubber stoppers several times.
Keep extra stoppers in your tackle box—they’re small and easy to lose.
