Description:
1.The LM317 three terminal adjustable voltage regulator integrated circuit makes the adjustable voltage regulator power supply circuit simple and reliable in performance,
2.The LM317 expansion circuit module can achieve an output current of 3A (requiring an increase in the heat sink of the power transistor) through the external connection of a high-power PNP type (TIP36) transistor, and has a short-circuit protection function.
3.When the pressure difference is small and the current is less than 2A, the built-in heat sink on the board can meet the heat dissipation requirements. If the current is greater than 2A and the input and output are large, please replace the high-power PNP transistor TIP36 with a larger heat sink.
4.The working principle of the module is equivalent to a series voltage stabilizing circuit, which adjusts the output voltage by adjusting the conductivity of the internal switch tube.
5.With short circuit protection, the output short circuit will not burn the device, and the input is equipped with a rectifier circuit, which can input without polarity.

Circuit working principle:
The TIP36 transistor and resistor R4 form an expansion circuit. The resistor R5 is a leakage resistor, which is used to activate the internal circuit of LM317
The working current does not exceed the base current of the TIP36 transistor. Resistance R4 is a short-circuit protection resistor. When the current exceeds the limit value during a short circuit, the voltage drop on resistance R4 increases, causing a decrease in the emission junction voltage of TIP36, resulting in TIP36 not being able to conduct. The current copper tube R5 flows into the input terminal of LM317. As the current exceeds the maximum output current of LM317, the internal overcurrent protection and overheat protection circuits of LM317 will work, automatically reducing the output current of LM317, thereby achieving short-circuit protection.
