Alfanil contains three active ingredients: Pyrantel embonate, Oxantel embonate ate and Praziquantel. Praziquantel is very effective in eradicating Tapeworms. Pyrantel is very effective in eradicating Hook Worms and Round Worms. Oxantel is very effective in eradicating Whipworms.
Pyrantel: It belongs to the group Tetrahydropyrimidines. Pyrantel is a broad spectrum nematodicidal drug. It paralyses the worm by depolarization of the neuromuscular junctions, and also inhibiting thechloenesterases. The recommended dosage is 15 mg/kg body weight, orally.
Oxantel: is an M-oxyphenol analogue of Pyrantel. It is very active against whipworms (Trichuris spp.). After oral administration, Oxantel Pamoate absorption is negligible and reaches in high concentration in large intestine.
Praziquantel: belongs to Prazinoisoquinoline group Praziquantel causes spastic paralysis of worms and kill them by damaging their tegument. The primary mechanism known is by increasing the cationic permeability into the parasite. Praziquantel is highly effectives against tapeworms and flukes of canines. The recommended dosage is 5 mg/kg body weight, orally.
