Product details

Black Indian ink is a popular choice for artists and illustrators due to its deep black color and ability to create bold, expressive lines. It can be used with various drawing tools such as brushes, dip pens, fountain pens, or technical pens to create intricate drawings, sketches, comics, or calligraphy. Its rich pigment and smooth flow make black Indian ink well-suited for calligraphy. Calligraphers use it to create elegant lettering styles such as Gothic, Italic, or Copperplate script on a variety of surfaces including paper, parchment, or even wood. Indian ink can be diluted with water to create washes, gradients, or subtle tonal variations, making it suitable for painting techniques such as ink wash painting or sumi-e (Japanese ink painting). It’s often used for creating atmospheric effects, shading, or adding depth to artworks.

Specifications

Key Features

  • A warm black, this is a true artist’s ink. Non-waterproof black holds precise pen line work as well as bold strokes and delicate brushwork. It differs greatly from black watercolor in that watercolor displays more water solubility and transparency than non-waterproof black ink due to the gum arabic binder. Non-waterproof black ink is semi-opaque and staining: dry edges may be softened, but are not completely lifted.
  • This non-waterproof formula allows for seamless blending, shading, and washes — ideal for artists who seek to create depth and dimension in their work. The ink’s reactivity to water enables delicate transitions and soft gradients.
  • This ink is forgiving, allowing for corrections and adjustments. Its carefully balanced, carbon pigment formula is the lightest of the Caslo India Inks, but can be layered to create dense areas of black, as well as diluted to create subtle shifts in the lightest gray tones.
  • Use with brushes and dip pens on paper, board and film. Clean tools with tap water immediately after use
