1. Bone Grafting Instruments

These tools help in preparing, placing, and shaping the bone graft material during surgery.

Bone Scrapers:

• Used to collect bone from a donor site, typically from the patient’s own body (auto  graft), which is then used to fill a defect.
• Available in various sizes and shapes to allow for precise bone harvesting.

Bone Blades and Chisels:

• Used to shape the bone or remove pieces of bone from the donor site or the recipient site.
• Often used in maxillo facial surgery or implant surgeries when reshaping the bone is necessary.
• Chisels are specifically used for precise bone removal or shaping, while bone blades allow for more extensive cutting.

Bone Grafting Punch:

• A cylindrical tool used to take small plugs of bone from the donor site, typically for auto grafting or harvesting bone for the grafting site.
• The punch works by extracting bone from areas with adequate density and quality, often used for bone regeneration procedures.

Bone Mill:

• A tool used to finely mill and prepare bone graft material, particularly when an auto graft is being used. The mill breaks down the harvested bone into smaller pieces, which can then be placed into the recipient site more effectively.
• Useful for sinus lift procedures or large bone grafts.

2. Bone Graft Carriers

Bone graft carriers are tools designed to transport bone grafting material from one area to another during a procedure.

Bone Graft Carrier/Applicators:

• Used to carry and deliver bone graft material (e.g., bone chips, synthetic bone, or allograft materials) into the grafting site.
• The applicator has a tip that helps pack the graft material tightly into the site, ensuring proper coverage for optimal bone healing.

Syringe-Type Bone Graft Carriers:

• Bone graft material is loaded into a syringe, and the material is injected into the prepared grafting site with precise control.

3. Bone Grafting Elevators and Elevation Instruments

These tools help in lifting or separating bone during grafting procedures.

Bone Elevators:

• Used to gently lift and separate bone from adjacent tissues during bone graft procedures. This is useful when creating space for graft material or raising a flap of tissue during a sinus lift or ridge augmentation.
• Available in different angles and sizes for use in specific areas of the mouth.

Periotomes:

• These are specialized instruments used to loosen teeth or portions of the tooth socket, making space for bone grafting materials.
• They are often used in procedures where there is a need to preserve the bone around the teeth while performing a tooth extraction.
