Poaching is a gentle cooking method where food is cooked using steam that rises from simmering or boiling water at the bottom of a pan or cookware.

A perfectly poached egg typically has a soft, runny yolk with a delicate, fully cooked white and no raw residue. In countries where hens are universally vaccinated against salmonella, consuming runny eggs is considered safe. However, you may adjust cooking time based on your preference:

3–4 minutes: Firm egg white with a soft, runny yolk

5–6 minutes: Soft but non-runny yolk

7–8 minutes: Fully hard yolk

Always ensure the water is at a gentle simmer. Do not poach for more than 10 minutes, and never leave eggs unattended during cooking.
