Kangaita tea leaves

Kangaita tea leaves are known for their high quality, with characteristics including fruity, spicy, and malty notes, often processed using the orthodox method to create premium loose-leaf black, purple, and oolong teas. 

Key Characteristics and Types

Kangaita tea is produced by the Kangaita Tea Factory located on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, an area ideal for tea cultivation due to its high altitude. The factory is Fairtrade certified and known for being the first in Kenya to have an orthodox tea processing line. 

• Black Tea (FOP, FTFOP, OP1 grades): This is the most common type. It is a whole-leaf tea that produces a smooth, rich, and balanced infusion with a copper color. According to ManuTea.nl, the flavor profile includes fruity notes (mandarin, clementine, raspberry), spices (pepper, bay leaf), and a gentle maltiness. It's smooth enough to be enjoyed on its own but also tastes great with milk.
• Purple Tea: Kangaita Tea Factory is one of the facilities that produces this specialty tea, which is packed with antioxidants and offers a subtly sweet taste. It is sometimes blended with regular black CTC tea or sold as a pure product, often for experimental purposes to develop market outlets.
