A medium‑strength threadlocker is a type of anaerobic adhesive formulated to lock and seal threaded fasteners (bolts, nuts, studs) such that they resist loosening from vibration, shock, and moderate thermal cycling—but still allow for disassembly using standard hand tools.

These adhesives cure (harden) in the absence of air between closely fitting metal surfaces. They typically have a “blue” color coding in many product lines (e.g. Loctite Blue series) to distinguish them from low‑strength (purple, etc.) or high‑strength (red) variants.

Seals threads & protects against corrosion	Helps seal out moisture and inhibit rust or corrosion in threads. Also helps prevent fretting.
Thixotropic / gel / non‑drip forms available	Some medium threadlockers exist in stick or gel‑format (e.g. LOCTITE 248) so they don’t run or drip, useful for overhead/vertical applications or precision‑work.
Color coding	Many are blue in color to distinguish from low‑strength or high‑strength varieties. Helps with identification.
Permits disassembly	Designed so assemblies can be taken apart with hand tools. Useful for maintenance, service. Not permanent.
