The story begins very slowly with multiple character development - necessary but somewhat tedious leaving readers wondering when the intrigue and action will begin. Once it does, the book becomes a page turner illustrating an unbelievably complex understanding of the intricacies of global intelligence. The story weaves a mind boggling web of internal and international spying coupled with human frailties, fears and fractured trust. The ongoing whiplash of events leading toward nuclear devastation is all the more frightening given the author's amazing grasp of theoretical outcomes. My rating reflects not on the exemplary content of the novel but on the ending which in my view detracts and disappoints the reader's commitment to the book and expectation of a resolution albeit controversial and utopian.
