Franz Bardon (1909–1958) was a renowned Czech occultist, Hermetic adept, and author known for his teachings on ritual magic and Hermetic philosophy. His most influential works include "Initiation into Hermetics," "The Practice of Magical Evocation," and "The Key to the True Qabalah." Bardon’s teachings focus on practical and experiential magic, guiding serious students through a structured path of spiritual and magical development without needing a personal teacher or occult lodge.
"The Practice of Magical Evocation" is one of Bardon's key texts, detailing how to summon and communicate with spiritual entities such as planetary spirits, angels, and demons. The book includes both theoretical foundations and practical exercises designed to help the practitioner safely and effectively evoke and work with these entities. Bardon is credited with expanding Kabbalistic principles and is noted for his emphasis on self-discipline, ethical practice, and rigorous training.
Bardon himself was a stage magician known as "Frabato" before dedicating his life to real magic. He faced persecution during World War II for refusing to work magically for the Nazis, enduring imprisonment and torture. After the war, he continued his esoteric work and healing practices until his arrest by the Czech government in 1958, after which he died in custody.
