Thomas Sankara became president after a coup and declared independence for his people in the Upper Volta region (later named Burkina Faso).
He’s often called the African “Che Guvera” and in his short term he demonstrated humility and leadership in his office. He exemplified a humble leader not corrupted by the power of the office and remained in touch with his roots and the struggles of the everyday
