Topshot 60 OD is a broad-spectrum post-emergence herbicide designed to control a variety of undesired plants in rice cultivation. It is particularly effective against broadleaf undesired plants, grass undesired plants, and sedges. This herbicide is widely used in both irrigated and rain-fed rice fields to ensure optimal crop yields and quality.
Topshot 60 OD contains two active ingredients:
Cyhalofop-butyl: Belongs to HRAC Group A, which inhibits acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase). This systemic herbicide interferes with fatty acid synthesis within grasses, depriving the plant of needed lipids and inhibiting cell division at the plant meristem.
Penoxsulam: Belongs to HRAC Group B, which inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS) or acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS). This mode of action disrupts the synthesis of essential amino acids in the target undesired plants.
Topshot 60 OD works by combining the actions of Cyhalofop-butyl and Penoxsulam. Cyhalofop-butyl interferes with the fatty acid synthesis in grasses, leading to the inhibition of cell division and plant growth. Penoxsulam inhibits the synthesis of essential amino acids, disrupting the growth and development of broadleaf undesired plants and sedges. This dual action ensures comprehensive control of a wide range of undesired plants.
Topshot 60 OD is effective against a variety of undesired plants, including:
Grass Undesired Plants: Various species of grass undesired plants that compete with rice for nutrients and space.
Broadleaf Undesired Plants: Undesired plants with broad leaves that can overshadow rice plants and reduce yields.
Sedges: Undesired plants that thrive in wet conditions and can be particularly problematic in rice fields.
Topshot 60 OD is typically applied as a foliar spray. The recommended application rate is 3.5-4 liters per hectare in 200 liters of water. For smaller applications, use 350-400 ml per 20-liter knapsack sprayer. It is important to apply the herbicide when undesired plants are at the 1st to 6th leaf stage, and the rice crop is at the 2nd leaf to the end of the tillering stage. Water and dry-seeded rice fields must be partially drained to expose undesired plants prior to application, ensuring that most of the leaf surface is out of the water.
Broad-Spectrum Control: Provides effective control of a wide range of undesired plants, ensuring healthy rice growth.
Dual Mode of Action: Combines two different modes of action, reducing the risk of resistance development in undesired plant populations.
Systemic Activity: Ensures thorough control of undesired plants, including those not directly in the line of spray.
Safe for Rice: Designed to be safe for use on rice crops, without causing phytotoxicity when applied according to label directions.
When used according to label directions, Topshot 60 OD is safe for use and has a minimal impact on non-target organisms. It is designed to target specific undesired plants, reducing the risk of harm to beneficial plants and the environment. Proper handling and application practices are essential to ensure the responsible use of this product.
Topshot 60 OD is a powerful and versatile herbicide that provides effective control of a wide range of undesired plants in rice cultivation. Its dual mode of action, broad-spectrum control, and safety profile make it an essential tool for farmers looking to protect their rice crops and ensure healthy growth. By using Topshot 60 OD, growers can achieve better crop results, higher yields, and improved overall plant health.
