When Boiling of water is not practical, water can be made portable by using this product. Prior to adding of the sanitizer, remove all suspended matter by filtration or by allowing it to settle to the bottom. Decant the clarified contaminated water to a clean container and add this product to the water as per directions stated below.

Calcium hypochlorite is an inorganic compound with formula Ca (ClO) 2. It is the main active ingredient of commercial products called bleaching powder, chlorine powder, or chlorinated lime, used for water treatment and as a bleaching agent. [1] This compound is relatively stable and has greater available chlorine than sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach). [2] It is a white solid, although commercial samples appear yellow. It strongly smells of chlorine, owing to its slow decomposition in moist air. Strong solutions of calcium hypochlorite are used to disinfect and sanitise poolsides, pool bottom, diving boards, decks, ladders and other surfaces. It is also extensively used to treat wastewater and disinfect sewages. It is commonly used as a bleaching agent and also finds application as industrial sanitizer.

Direction of use

Add 10 grams (one teaspoonful) of the chlorine in every 4000 litres of water or half teaspoonful in 2000 litres of water. After adding the powder allow the water to stand for 30 minutes. Properly treated water should have a slight chlorine odour. The treated water can then be made palatable by pouring it into clean containers for several times.
