Performance

Apple is developing new A-series chips for the iPhone 16 lineup, built on the latest 3-nanometer technology, which could bring improvements to efficiency and performance. The iPhone 16 come equipped with:

Operating System:

The iPhone 16 runs on iOS 18, which includes new features and improvements in privacy, performance, and user experience.

iOS 18 brings new LLM features to all iPhones, with enhanced AI functionalities that could improve interactions between Siri and other apps. The A18 chip will feature an upgraded Neural Engine with ‘significantly’ more cores. The current iPhone lineup has the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max run the A17 Pro chip, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus both have the A16 Bionic chip also found in the iPhone 14 Pro.

Chipset:

The new phone is powered by the A18 Bionic chip, featuring a 6-core CPU (2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. This chipset offers significant performance improvements and better energy efficiency compared to previous models.

Design

The iPhone 16 model retains the standard and current size as the iPhone 15, with minor design tweaks, such as a new vertical camera lens arrangement. It now measures 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8 mm (5.81 x 2.82 x 0.31 in) and weighs 170g.

Display

There will be an improvement in the display panel on the iPhone 16, compared to the iPhone 15, with the use of Micro-lens technology in the OLED panels. This will result in improved brightness and more efficient power consumption.

New Haptic Buttons

Apple toyed with a capacitive touch button on the exterior of the iPhone 15 model, but the project was undone by the time factor. 

The tech giants tried with the iPhone 16, adding a button that is similar to the iPhone SE’s home button below the power button.   It will have haptic feedback and force-touch capability. The Action button that rolled out for the iPhone 15 Pros comes to the base iPhone 16, too and is a new feature.

Camera Set up

The iPhone 16 features a vertical camera arrangement, in a pill-shaped camera module. This is a different design from the familiar rectangular arrangement on previous models. The main and ultra-wide lenses are in a vertical layout with 2 separate camera rings. The LED flash is adjacent in position to the camera bump, like in earlier designs.

Both cameras support features like Night mode, Deep Fusion, and Smart HDR 5, ensuring high-quality photos in various lighting conditions.

Front Camera

The iPhone 16 features a 12 MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture. This camera supports advanced features like Night mode, Deep Fusion, and Smart HDR 5, ensuring high-quality selfies in various lighting conditions.

Smarter Smartphone

The iPhone 16 comes with an AI-powered SIRI Voice Assistant. The handset, including Siri, is smarter. Generative AI is coming to the personal assistant, as well as apps like Messages, Apple Music, Pages, and Keynote courtesy of iOS 18.

An Action Button and a new “Capture” button have been added on the new look device for taking photos and videos. 

The Capture Button will function similarly to a digital camera’s shutter button.
