Color-changing gel polishes work based on a thermochromic reaction:
- Temperature sensitivity: The polish changes color when the temperature of your nails exceeds or falls below a certain threshold (often around 31°C or 18°C).
- Color shift: The lower the temperature, the darker the color, and the higher the temperature, the lighter the color. This effect becomes more noticeable on longer nails, where the tip (cooler) can be a different color from the base (warmer).
- Application: Like other gel polishes, they require a base coat, the color coats, and a top coat, with each layer cured under a UV or LED lamp.
