With Samsung launching the Galaxy Z TriFold in late 2025, curiosity around its design and real-world usability is building quickly. When closed, the Galaxy Z TriFold presents itself like a familiar smartphone, thanks to its 6.5-inch cover display. In this state, it’s easy to forget you’re holding something more complex than a standard foldable.

That illusion disappears the moment you unfold it. The TriFold expands into a massive 10-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, creating a viewing experience that feels far closer to a compact tablet than a phone. Unlike square foldable panels, this wider layout minimizes letterboxing when watching video content, making movies and trailers feel more immersive and better suited to the screen’s size.

The larger canvas also elevates Samsung’s Galaxy AI features. Photo edits powered by generative AI benefit from the extra space, allowing before-and-after results to be viewed side by side without crowding the interface.

Brightness is respectable rather than class-leading. The main panel reaches 1,600 nits—less than Samsung’s top-tier foldables—but it remains bright enough for comfortable use outdoors, even in direct sunlight.

The tri-fold design introduces two creases, yet they proved surprisingly subtle during hands-on use. More importantly, the expanded panel enables true multitasking. The Galaxy Z TriFold can comfortably run three apps side by side, effectively turning the device into a portable productivity hub.

One area where the TriFold truly stands out is thinness when fully open. Measuring just 4 to 4.2 mm, it’s even slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, leaving barely enough internal space for components like the USB-C port.

Folded shut, however, the device tells a different story. At 12.9 mm thick, it’s noticeably bulkier than the Z Fold 7, which comes in at 8.9 mm. It fits best in a jacket or back pocket, but it’s not something you’ll want to carry in the front pocket of your jeans.

Weight is the final consideration. At 309 grams (10.9 ounces), the Galaxy Z TriFold is heavy for a foldable phone. That extra mass is the cost of its larger display and more complex hinge system—and it’s something buyers will need to factor in when considering everyday portability.

The Galaxy Z TriFold makes a bold statement: ultra-thin and expansive when open, powerful for multitasking, but undeniably thick and heavy when closed. Whether that balance works will depend on how much you value screen size and versatility over pocket-friendly design.
