Tenda HG3 N300 WiFi xPON ONT
Need a single device that handles fiber internet, gives you decent WiFi, and doesn’t require juggling multiple boxes? The Tenda HG3 does exactly that. It’s built for homes or small offices connected via fiber, giving you “fiber in, WiFi out” with minimal fuss.
What It Does Well
- Fiber Ready: Compatible with both EPON & GPON, so it can work with many ISP fiber setups without needing separate ONT + router. Tenda+2Tenda+2
- Solid Wireless N Performance: Offers up to 300 Mbps over 2.4 GHz (802.11n). Good for streaming HD content, video calls, social media, light gaming. Tenda+1
- Good Coverage: With two 5 dBi antennas and RF tuning, it aims to cover “one more wall” than cheaper models. If your home isn’t huge, this helps reduce dead zones. Tenda+1
- Multiple LAN Ports : You get one gigabit LAN port (1000 Mbps), one 100 Mbps LAN, plus a PON port for fiber input. Tenda+2computerchoice.pk+2
- Feature-Rich: Guest WiFi SSIDs, basic security (WPA/WPA2, MAC filter, etc.), QoS for prioritizing traffic, remote management via TR-069, works with IPv4 & IPv6. Tenda+1
Where It Falls Short
- Only 2.4 GHz, Wireless-N: No 5 GHz band. So if you’re surrounded by many WiFi networks (neighbors, apartments), interference might slow things down. Also, you won’t get ultra-high wireless speeds that newer dual-band or WiFi-ac/ax routers deliver.
- LAN Speed Limit on One Port: Only one gigabit LAN port; the other LAN port is limited to 100 Mbps. If you have devices that need fast wired connections (NAS, gaming PCs, etc.), they might be constrained.
- Coverage & Obstructions Matter: Even with good antenna design, performance drops through thick walls, over long distances, or multiple floors. For large homes, you may need additional access points or extenders.
- Feature Sophistication vs High-End Models: Lacks advanced mesh features, high-end QoS/tuning, maybe fewer advanced settings compared to premium fiber routers. If you want cutting edge, you’ll pay more.
