Overview - This cable is a straight RS232 cable. A straight cable is used for connecting between a DTE device (Data Terminal Equipment) and DCE Device (Data Communications Equipment). A computer is a DTE device, while most other devices are usually DCE devices. The RS-232 standard states that DTE devices use a 25-pin male connector, and DCE devices use a 25-pin female connector.
