Before You Begin:

Be Prepared:

• Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported and your feet flat on the floor.
• Rest for 5 minutes before the measurement.
• Ensure you are calm and relaxed; avoid talking during the measurement.

Avoid Stimulants:

• Do not consume caffeine, or engage in strenuous exercise at least 30 minutes before measuring your BP.

Empty Bladder:

• Use the restroom before taking your BP to ensure accuracy.

Taking the Measurement:

Select the Right Equipment:

• Use a validated automatic or manual BP monitor. Automatic monitors are generally more user-friendly.

Proper  Placement:

• Position  on your bare upper arm, ensuring it is snug but not too tight.

Arm Position:

• Rest your arm on a flat surface, such as a table, with your palm facing upward.

Proper Alignment:

• Align the monitor with your heart. 

Stay Still:

• Keep still during the measurement. Do not talk or move your body.

Take Multiple Readings:

• If using an automatic monitor, take two or three readings, spaced a minute apart. Record all readings.

Record the Results:

• Note the systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom number) readings. 

Time of Day:

• Try to take your BP at the same time each day for consistency.

Interpreting the Results:

Normal BP: generally considered around 120/80 mm Hg.

Elevated or Hypertensive Readings:

• Consult with your healthcare professional if your readings consistently show elevated or hypertensive levels.

Regular Monitoring:
